National Security Leaders Call on VP Harris and Congress to Back Immigration Policy Solutions
June 25, 2021
Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Vice President Kamala Harris visits the U.S. Southern border today, leaders from the Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) issued the following statement:
“It’s good to see leaders from both parties, including the vice president, giving the urgent challenges at the border the attention they’re due. While we appreciate that the Biden administration has been attempting to address the root causes of migration to the southern border, as well as its effects, serious challenges remain. As national security leaders, we hope to see the parties work together toward long-term solutions around immigration reform that puts America’s national security at the forefront and demonstrates humanitarian leadership. We are optimistic that after visiting the border, the Biden administration and Congress will formally back policy solutions that effectively bolster our country’s security, reduce illegal immigration, and address migration over the long term through immigration reforms. In the same vein, we need efficient screening and vetting practices at our borders to ensure that we welcome the most vulnerable migrants in accordance with our domestic laws and international obligations, among other priorities.”
