Washington — Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) leaders Lynden Melmed and Ross Ashley released a statement ahead of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Dream Deferred: The Urgent Need to Protect Immigrant Youth” and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals’ (DACA) 12-year anniversary calling for Congress to pass a permanent solution for Dreamers, like The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) or similar legislation.
“As we approach another year since the start of the DACA program, it is imperative that we remember who benefits from this program,” said Lynden Melmed. “Dreamers have spent more than a decade in uncertainty, unable to secure permanent legal immigration status and a clear path to eventual citizenship. Congress holds the key to resolving this issue and must prioritize passing a permanent solution for Dreamers, like the Dream Act or similar legislation to provide Dreamers with the stability they deserve in the country that many have called home since childhood.”
“While it is encouraging to see Congress hold another hearing aimed at finding a solution for Dreamers, it is time that they take legislative action and pass a permanent solution for Dreamers,” said Ross Ashley. “These individuals enrich our economy, strengthen our communities, and deserve a permanent solution that reflects the value of fairness and the opportunities that America has to offer. The lack of legislative action continues to leave Dreamers in limbo and a court decision away from dismantling their lives and ripping away productive members of society.”
