Council on National Security and Immigration Leaders Call for a Legislative Solution for Dreamers

Press Release
WASHINGTON – The Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) today released a statement on the anniversary of the announcement of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, calling on Congress to pass a permanent solution for Dreamers.
“Fourteen years ago, DACA was created to temporarily provide hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who were raised, educated, and deeply rooted in the United States with protection from deportation and the ability to work legally. Dreamers are in America through no fault of their own, and are students, workers, and entrepreneurs who strengthen our communities and economy.
“Yet over a decade later, due to congressional inaction, Dreamers remain in limbo, relying on temporary protections that continue to face legal and political challenges. While DACA has allowed many young people to contribute to the country they call home, only Congress can provide the certainty and permanence Dreamers deserve. Congress must enact legislation to provide Dreamers with permanent legal status and a clear opportunity to earn citizenship, which would allow them to serve in the military and help bolster our national security.”
