WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) leaders today released a statement voicing strong support for the renewed bipartisan effort to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act. This critical legislation would provide a pathway to conditional permanent resident status for Afghans who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with U.S. service members, diplomats, and aid workers during two decades of conflict.
“America made a promise to those who risked their lives to support our mission. Fulfilling that promise is both a moral obligation and a strategic imperative. The Afghan Adjustment Act would ensure these allies undergo the most rigorous vetting process, as well as incorporate useful improvements to the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, reinforcing our national security while offering the stability and certainty they need to rebuild their lives in the United States.
“Failing to act would not only abandon those who served alongside us, as well as other deserving evacuated Afghans, but also undermine the credibility of U.S. commitments around the world. Passing this legislation will send a clear message to future partners that America honors its word and stands by those who stand with us.
“CNSI urges Congress to move swiftly to enact adjustment legislation like the Afghan Adjustment Act and deliver on our commitment to our Afghan allies. As we mark another anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, we are reminded that fulfilling this promise is not only a matter of moral responsibility but a vital step in strengthening our national security and demonstrating that the United States stands by those who stand with us.”
