CNSI Leaders Commend Decision to Raise Refugee Cap

May 3, 2021

Press Release

We commend President Biden for his decision to revise the presidential determination for fiscal year 2021, and raise the refugee ceiling to 62,500. In taking strides to strengthen the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), President Biden has sent a clear message to the world: the United States is prepared to resume its position as a global humanitarian leader, and provide a have for those seeking freedom of opportunity, expression, and religion.

We look forward to President Biden’s continued efforts to rebuild the USRAP, including setting a robust presidential determination for fiscal year 2022. As national security leaders, we understand that a strong refugee admissions program — coupled with thorough and efficient screening and vetting — is aligned with our national interests.

CNSI Leader, Elizabeth Neumann made the following comments, “I applaud President Biden for his decision to increase the refugee ceiling to 62,500. Our moral and humanitarian leadership in welcoming refugees sets an example and encourages other countries to do the same. That said, I urge the President to take critical next steps to fortify and improve the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, and in turn, strengthen our national security.”
