WASHINGTON – Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) leaders today applauded the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) announcement advancing a full biometric air entry-exit , calling it a long-awaited step toward modernizing America’s borders and strengthening national security. This program has long been a CNSI priority, as a cornerstone of modern border security.

“For nearly three decades, completing a biometric entry-exit system has been one of the most critical unfinished priorities in U.S. border modernization, as required by three separate Congressional border security statutes. This action represents a significant leap forward in ensuring that our nation can accurately verify who enters and leaves the United States, a capability essential to both our security and our credibility.

“A fully implemented biometric system enhances our ability to identify threats, identify overstays by foreign travelers, and manage lawful travel with speed and precision. It is a tool that protects the homeland while enabling legitimate trade and travel to move efficiently. We urge DHS to continue to work cooperatively with aviation and travel stakeholders to execute this initiative.

“This effort also has far-reaching economic benefits. Secure, seamless travel strengthens our partnerships, boosts tourism and investment, and creates jobs across the United States. As global travel systems modernize, the United States must remain the leader in setting high standards for security, privacy, and efficiency. A full system may also allow expansion of the Visa Waiver Program to other countries that meet strict security criteria.

“With major international events on the horizon, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and America 250, the timing could not be more important. Completing biometric entry and exit will demonstrate that the United States can safeguard its borders while welcoming the world. The Trump Administration’s decision to advance this long-delayed reform reflects a recognition that technology-driven modernization is essential to both our security and economic strength. This is smart security policy and sound economic strategy.”
