Washington, D.C. — Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) Leader Lynden Melmed released the following statement following Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s visit with President Joe Biden at the White House last week.

“The United States and Mexico’s commitment to strengthening our shared border, modernizing ports of entry and responding more effectively to unaccompanied minors migrating was welcome news. The pledge to continue to improve the economic and social conditions at the root of migration is key to helping mitigate migrants fleeing poverty, lack of economic opportunity and violence. All together, these commitments would strengthen the national security and economies of both countries.

“While this announcement is positive, more tangible actions are needed to ensure a sustainable and comprehensive solution to maintain robust enforcement policies while ensuring full protection of human rights at the U.S.-Mexico border. We call on both countries to act on these commitments and look forward to supporting those actions.”
